In another great endorsement of Portland as a place for creative people to live and work, the Intermezzo foundation has chosen Portland as the home of its 2010 Intermezzo Opera & Musical Theatre Performance Program. The program will bring 50 young performing artists for around the world to Portland to train and perform, "with daily offerings in voice production, vocal coaching, dance, acting, language and diction, as well as Master Classes by visiting professional artists." The schedule of performances includes informal cabaret evenings at Port City Music Hall and full productions at the Merrill Auditorium and the new Westbrook Performing Arts Center. “The Intermezzo Young Artist Program is dedicated to providing career enhancing skills to performers who, in turn, provide spectacular stage performances in our new home community of Portland,” said Mitchell Piper, Artistic Director, Intermezzo Young Artist Program. “Intermezzo is proud to move its Young Artists Program to Maine and become a vital partner in Portland’s growing arts community.”
