The Downeaster was recently awarded a grant to investigate ways to improve service. Hopefully this will translate to faster service between Portland and points south (including Boston), and more departures and arrivals. A real commuter train service!
The Portland-to-Brunswick leg of the Downeaster is being worked on now. Some roads in the city are being blocked off today while the new track is put in place.
