There are times when, in subtle ways, you notice that things are lining up. Kevin Thomas, Publisher of The Maine Magazine, forwarded us a letter addressed to the magazine that is about just the kind of story that LiveWork Portland is here to cover:
I didn't seriously consider moving back to Maine until I realized through this magazine how much is happening there in arts, entertainment, and, most importantly, food! After spending the past seven years in the DC area, I am thrilled to be moving back to my home state at the end of January. I can't say I would be making this huge change if it hadn't been for Maine [Magazine] introducing me to a cooler, more diverse, more progressive place than I left behind after college.

It made me realize that there are many of us here in Portland who are trying to broadcast to the wider world this updated sense of what Maine is and what it is becoming. Portland, and particularly that protean entity we call the creative economy in Portland, has a unique vantage point on these changes. LiveWork Portland, and all of the efforts of Creative Portland, are trying to move the national perception of Maine beyond a scenic aspirational fantasy and positioning Portland as a smart and workable choice for many creative individuals and businesses. The Maine Magazine is certainly making our job easier—and I hope they feel that we are returning the favor. And Marion, have a look at LiveWork Portland and let us know if it eases your relocation efforts.
