Maine Women Pioneers III
February 20, 2013 / by Edwige Charlot / Exhibit Includes Alison Hildreth, Rose Marasco, and Katarina Weslien Last night, the Art Gallery at the University of New England hosted its second special program in conjunction with their current exhibitions entitled Maine Women Pioneers III: Homage. This program included the curators as moderators and a panel comprised of curator Bruce Brown, former director of the Center of Contemporary Maine Art; writer Edgar Beem; and Executive Director of Creative Portland, Jennifer Hutchins.

A "Moment" of Appreciation for Public Art
October 16, 2012 / by Christian MilNeil / Yesterday, a crane lifted a modernist sculpture of cantilevered steel beams into the outdoor courtyard of the Portland Museum of Art on High Street, just half a block from Congress Square. The sculpture, called "Moment," is the work of British sculptor Anthony Caro, and is the second piece in the museum's collection of outdoor art (not counting architect Henry Cobb's celebrated design of the museum building itself), and comes to Portland from the private collection of donor Dr.

Welcome, Freshmen
October 1, 2012 / by Christian MilNeil / Late last week, this striking new mural appeared at the corner of Preble Street and Cumberland Avenue, a block off of Monument Square. The building is being renovated to become the Preble Street Resource Center's new Joe Kreisler Teen Shelter.
