Acrylic, Encaustic, Photography
Fine Art 511

Fine Art 511 is kicking of First Friday festivities with the 5pm dedication of the newest addition to Portland’s artistic landscape — Portland Rattle — in the heart of the arts district at Ocean Gate Plaza. After the dedication, be sure to visit Fine Art 511 in Ocean Gate Plaza's Suite A (to the right of the main entrance) to explore artist kdb's 6-week Wilderland.Maine exhibit — an ambitious, one-year Artist Immersion Project that evolved season by season. She will be available to answer your questions and tell you how she established her kdb Wilderland Basecamp in Phippsburg, Maine, last fall, then worked daily to capture the natural wonders found at the confluence of the Kennebec River and the Gulf of Maine. Her work provides an engaging visual narrative that includes photography, acrylic painting, encaustic and the written word. * "kdb Wilderland.Maine is my contribution and a vehicle to get folks to fall in love and steward this special spot in the world. Paint, Wax, Brushes, Notebooks and a Camera are my tools, taking me where I need to go. Step by step, day by day into Wilderland.Maine, a magical place indeed." *

ABOUT "PORTLAND RATTLES" - Appropriate to our home-grown art legacy, this towering 25-foot sculpture (designed by Maine native, artist Charlie Hewitt, and sponsored by Ocean Gate Plaza) speaks the unique language of Portland and our beautiful state through visual movement and symbols. The Portland Rattle positions brightly painted icons (the "Rattles") over the Plaza on towering, stainless-steel poles against an ever-changing backdrop of sky. The resulting, perceived visual movement and play of light, so important to art, will constantly alter the narrative, as will the weather with its ice, snow, wind and rain. How will the Portland Rattle speak to you? * (PHOTO: "Surrealism on the Shore" * Check our website and Facebook for ongoing Wilderland programs
