Dirigo! Maine Marks A Civil Rights Milestone

It's embarrassing to admit that Maine voters narrowly rejected gay marriage in a 2009 referendum. But let bygones be bygones, because (thanks in part to heavier turnout this year) we just became one of the first states in the nation to legalize gay marriage in a popular vote.

The measure passed by extra-wide margins in the city of Portland, by the way. They're celebrating hard at the Mainers United for Marriage campaign party downtown.

The City Clerk's office opens tomorrow at 9 a.m., if any of you want to inquire about marriage licenses. Thanks for voting!
