Bob McKillop

I'm passionate about songwriting, songwriters, and Portland, Maine

Job Songwriter / Bob McKillop Music

Lives In Outer Washington Ave

I fell in love with Portland in 2003 and never looked back.

I've been exploring the role of songwriter for decades now.

The independent music scene in Portland has been very supportive.  There are lots of opportunities to perform, learn from other songwriters, and meet other songwriters.

Taking in a show at Blue or One Longfellow Square, or catching a friend's set at Andy's Old Port; these are a few ways in which I enjoy the music scene here in Portland.

Why did you choose Portland? At first, I came to Portland for a job offer, but the incredible visual aesthetics and spirit is what brought me here to stay

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Terez Fraser for her commitment to local music. Sean Mencher for his talent and his beautiful soul Sorcha for her wonderful songwriting

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Visit Peaks Island, go out to dinner at The Dogfish Cafe, walk Pine Point beach

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Eastern Prom, no doubt about it

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Portland constantly surprises me by how it changes from year to year; but the fundamental elements that make it unique remain intact; it's beauty, it's walkability, the energy of it's summer season, the love of life displayed by it's inhabitants.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Holy Donuts!

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Rosies Bar

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. A summertime Saturday dinner on the upper deck at the Dry Dock; Followed by music at Blue; Bam Bam Bakery cinnamon rolls the next morning with my Sweetie and the New York Times

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? The Saturday farmers market at Deering Oaks park
