Lives In The West End
My roots are in the Fourth Estate. As a third generation employee of a metropolitan newspaper, words written with integrity were the foundation of my formative years -- both as a child and then as an adult, in business. After a short career as a research librarian for a major mid-western newspaper, I managed a satellite department for a Madison Ave., NY research firm. Freelance writing and graphic design became a love, which I pursued and continue to enjoy. Today I am based in Portland, Maine with space in the Old Port at Murphy Empire. I have clients nationwide, and many small business in Maine. If you are ever on Route 9 going toward Calais, tell the folks at The Airline Snackbar that Marty sent you! If in Winterport, you must visit The Bacon Tree... YUM!
Why did you choose Portland? For it's proximity to attractive destinations and the city. LOVE IT.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? Ed Gardner at Ocean Gate Realty; Patricia Daunis, Daunis Jewelers; Andrea Helm, former owner of As 1 Gallery in the Old Port; artists/creatives: Gibrian Foltz, Ken Murphy (Murphy Empire), LK Weiss (the Portland Designer), Anastasia Weigle (A Life Disassembled), Cindy Barnard (CCB Creative), Poet-Painter Kifah Abdulla... There are so many more and I will update as time goes on. The above people have integrity, vision, talent and creativity of spirit that inspires others. I am honored to know them.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? My home... looking at the massive black maples from my little "acre"
What's the most surprising thing about this city? The miracle of meeting someone while waiting for a table, or in a gallery... and that person becomes part of your life.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Just toss a stone... you're bound to locate one of my fav places... so many.
