I like to get creative with words and food.
Job Communications & Design Consultant / M. Bedford Communications
Lives In South Portland
When I had my daughter, Nellie, in early 2014 I decided it was time for a professional refresh. After directing communications and curriculum at two educational non-profits, I was lured by the creative and personal freedom afforded by independent consulting. I now work with businesses, professional individuals, and non-profits to develop their unique brand through strategic communications and consistent, clean design.
I also love to cook, and when I can steal a few free minutes I write about all the good things we get to eat on my blog, megansmark.com. In doing so, I hope to spread the word about our local farms and markets, and inspire more people to get cooking with Maine-sourced ingredients.
Why did you choose Portland? Maine has always been the home my husband and I knew we would return to, but living in Portland has exceeded our expectations. There aren't many places where you can easily access the best parts of a city (great food, arts, events, and diverse community) and also get to a sparkling beach in less than 15 minutes. In Portland, you can.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? I love Joe Appel's unpretentious, intelligent wine writing for the Portland Press Herald.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Eat bagels from Scratch Bakery and go to Scarborough Beach.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? A large meatball sub from Sam DiPietro's Market on Cottage Street in South Portland.
