Lives In The West End

I am originally from Iowa and moved to the Northeast in 2006 when I made Brooklyn, New York my home for many years. I loved the city and it's incredible energy, but greatly missed having access to the outdoors. My love of nature and all outdoor pursuits (with the exception of ice climbing... sorry), brought me to Maine three years ago.

I work for Rippleffect, a non-profit organization based in Portland. As the Program Manager, I teach youth outdoors in all seasons. From our ecocampus headquarters on Cow Island, to the mountains of New Hampshire, I help Maine youth visualize themselves as leaders capable of creating positive change in our world.  I am also the Leave No Trace State Advocate for Maine, and volunteer throughout the state to spread the word about LNT principles and our role as stewards of this planet.

In my free time, you can find me kayaking in Casco Bay, summitting mountains, running the Eastern Promenade, teaching fitness classes at Bay Club, and trying to have as much fun as possible. When I'm not sweating and exploring, I spend my time writing, drawing, and creating.

We only get this one beautiful life we get to live, and I do my best to get the most out of every moment.

Why did you choose Portland? It wasn't exactly throwing darts at a map, but I moved to Portland on a whim. I had heard great things, had visited Maine once, and after 4 hours in Portland signed a year long lease. I thought I'd be here for six months before moving back to NYC... that was three years ago.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Bard Cafe, the Eastern Prom, and Arcadia. Each speaks to a different part of my soul, and they're all within a five minute walk of each other. Well done, Portland, well done.
