Determined to always marvel at the beauty of the Eastern Prom

Job Program Coordinator / City of Portland

Lives In East End

My work: Running health centers located in our public schools. Why? We increase teen access to healthcare (inc. physical, mental and oral healthcare), which helps keep kids healthy, learning and in school and keeps parents at work.

My play: Exploring trails, dining, shopping locally, cooking, making new connections, hiking, learning about cool new startups, camping, finding fun new pubs, growing herbs, hosting, tasting local brews, kayaking, having picnics, attending concerts, playing CAH with friends old and new.

Why did you choose Portland? I was looking for a small city, where I could tangibly feel a sense of close community but where there was still a satisfying array of activity to stimulate my mind and my soul. Portland seems to have perfected that balance.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? I always make sure out-of-towners get some lobster in whatever form they like it--whole lobster, lobster rolls or in mac n' cheese. It's usually, Gilberts, Eventide, Two Lights or 555. Then I make sure they soak in the scene of Exchange Street and the feel of the Old Port. If I have active folks, I'll do a walking tour of the Eastern Prom and the Back Cove. And if we want to get more beach, I'll take them to Kettle Cove and then down to see the Portland Head Light.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? Heading to the top of the Portland Observatory. And lunch in the gardens behind the Longfellow House.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? The Farmer's Market in Monument Square on Wednesdays seems to be where all my favorites turn up! Unless of course you count 2 Degrees Portland Events. :)
