Scott Douglas

Not just a running geek!

Job Editor/Writer

Lives In South Portland

I'm the editor of Runner's World Newswire, working from my home in South Portland. The coolest thing I've done in that regard is breaking the story about Paul Ryan's misstated marathon time.

I also write books on running.

But I'm not as one-dimensional as the above might make you think. I've been published in The Atlantic, Outside, Slate, and the Washington Post, sometimes even about things other than running. Locally, I contributed to The Bollard before they went all fancy with a print version.

I like having side projects and am always eager to find interesting (read: non-running) things to investigate.

Why did you choose Portland? Urban perks without urban hassles.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? The guys in Phantom Buffalo seem to be happy doing their own thing despite being underappreciated.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Show them trails in Cape Elizabeth and then make them buy me Scratch bagels.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Tandem Coffee is swell.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Big jars of kimchi from Thirty Acres Farm at the farmers' market. Sorry I'm so lame.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Scratch Baking Company. But this sample size is limited, as I'm seldom let out of the house.
