My name is Simon Williams, I am from Portland, Maine. I am a former athlete who loved competition and teamwork and realizing my full potential.  I played baseball throughout my childhood, eventually playing for the University of Maine and the St. Louis Cardinals. I loved playing baseball and still miss it, but when my time was over on the field, I knew my true calling was in education.

And so, I joined the Peace Corps and spent twenty-seven months in Ukraine.  I taught English and health and encouraged physical activity.  But I can easily say I learned just as much, if not more, from my students and their community.  The relationships I formed in Ukraine inspired me to think about education, community and civic engagement differently. 

I continued to develop my beliefs about education and community engagement when I returned to the US and began working as an Ed-Tech at Lyseth Elementary in Portland, ME.  The students and faculty at my school are exceptional and motivate me to think outside the box.
