Who are Portlanders you admire and why? So many! What really strikes me is that for such a small city, I am constantly meeting people that have been living here doing good work and interesting things, that I have somehow never met before. The small business owners that are really connected to the community, the restaurant peeps that are pushing food and local sourcing to new levels, the brewers, the designers--I see lots of collaborations that are inspiring and welcome.

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Eat, drink, and go to the ocean. Beach walks in the winter (or maybe a trip to Sugarloaf), swimming, sailing, or an island visit in the summer.

Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Eastern Prom with my mutt, Bella.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Over time it feels bigger and more interesting rather than smaller and dull.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Splurging for a pile of fresh fish, smoked fish, cheese, and wine at Browne Trading Company.

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? The Pepper Club and Cantina El Rayo.

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Sunset sail (summer) or sledding on eastern prom (winter), followed by a martini and oysters at Eventide, then home for a dinner party that turns into a dance party, then wake up and get smoked salmon bagels from 158 in SoPo and walk the dog on willard beach!

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? Maine Hardware on St John St. I can't seem to get a quart of paint without running into someone I know.
