Job Owner / Motion House Road

Lives In Cape Elizabeth

I am a graphic designer, photographer, mixed media collage artist and a self-proclaimed smoked salmon expert. I have over 27 years experience working with a diverse set of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to world-class nonprofits to mom and pop startups. My portfolio includes annual reports, newsletters, corporate brochures, and direct mail campaigns, as well as logos and identity programs. I enjoy creating bold designs with strong, consistent messages and great ideas behind them.

Living in Portland has been a transformative experience for me. It has been a perfect place to grow creatively and to live life to its fullest. While I did not grow up in Maine, I have considered it home since moving here. It is definitely the way life should be!

Why did you choose Portland? My wife, Connie-Marie, and I moved to Maine in 1998 and simply fell in love with this area. Portland has a raw energy that is simultaneously crunchy and chewy. Plus, it doesn't stick to your teeth like other cities.

Who are Portlanders you admire and why? There are too many to list. Portlanders have a unique perspective on life. They are generally happy people, and frankly, why wouldn't they be? They live in paradise!

What do you like to do with out-of-towners? We often take them on a "Tournée des phares" or the "Tour of the Lighthouses." But it sounds much more exotic in French.

What's the most surprising thing about this city? Lobsters are a daily nuisance and can often be found rummaging through the morning garbage. Also, it usually costs foh dollahs to pock ya cah by th’ watah. But it’s free in th’ wintah.

What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? Oysters and and icy cold martini at Eventide Oyster Co. *drool*

What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? While it has become somewhat more congested since we moved here, traffic is rarely a problem in this town compared to other cities on the east coast. It is so easy to navigate!

Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. My perfect night would probably take place in August and would involve a stop at Harbor Fish Market to pick up a couple of lobstahs and some steamers. Then home to cook out on our patio under the stars with a few good friends. And don't forget the Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale. The next morning would require a couple of tall caramel lattes from the Local Buzz. Rinse and repeat.

Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? The nice thing about Portland is that it is small enough to accidentally run into people you know pretty much anywhere.
