Job Video and Filmmaker, Photographer / Munjoy Hill Media
Lives In Munjoy Hill
I live on Munjoy Hill and some days I make it a goal not to leave the hill. Everything I want is usually there. I started my video production company, Munjoy Hill Media, in May 2012. My focus right now is growing my business. MHM is one of many video production companies located in Portland, but is one of the few that focuses on web. I also provide consulting for organizations looking to publish in-house video.
I've also taught video and film making at the University of Hong Kong at the Shanghai Center, the University of New England, and at University of Southern Maine.
Why did you choose Portland? I chose it because I think it is the center of the universe. It has elements of both a small town and a city. Also, did I mention that I like to eat things. Portland is a great place to eat lots of things.
Who are Portlanders you admire and why? The filmmaker Huey! He has been making films for over thirty years and that all he has done. Moreover, he has done it on his own terms. That is, I never got the sense that Huey was trying to go "Hollywood". He has been making quality films for thirty years without succumbing to the occupational hazard which is called being pretentious.
What do you like to do with out-of-towners? Hmmmm, I usually like to take them to Local 188 for dinner.
Where's your "happy place" on the peninsula? Local 188, The Armory, Corner Room, Blue Spoon
What's the most surprising thing about this city? That peaches, plums, and grapes grow on the peninsula.
What's your favorite indulgence and where do you find it? I am not going to tell.
What's the most under-appreciated place or thing in town? East end basketball court.
Describe your perfect night—and the following morning—in Portland. Dinner at local, drinks at Armory and other places that I will not say.
Do you have a serendipity spot? Where do you always bump into good people? The Eastern Prom
Creative Maker, Builder, Restorer of Wooden & Metal Things, especially old wood doors.
